RedD Gallery, is proud to present Where Lightning is Born, a new body of work by Italian artist Mattia Novello, on view at Scope Miami Beach 2025. Installed within a fluid and atmospheric booth environment, the presentation invites viewers into a suspended moment where tension transforms into illumination, where perception sharpens, boundaries dissolve, and clarity rises from abstraction.

In this latest series, Novello captures the electric instant when lightning breaks through the clouds: a threshold between anticipation and revelation. The works evoke the first breath of something coming into being, the moment when energy becomes visible and matter is awakened. Through layered surfaces, shifting chromatic fields, and meditative diffusions of light and shadow, Novello explores how awareness emerges, not suddenly, but through a gradual intensification of sensation. Each piece operates like a charged atmosphere, inviting viewers to slow their gaze and enter the intimate interval between stillness and eruption.

The booth design reflects this conceptual terrain. Rather than relying on a central focal point, the installation creates a rhythmic constellation of works that surround the viewer like suspended flashes of perception. Light, spacing, and color interact to produce an immersive field, echoing the softness and tension of clouded skies on the verge of transformation. The experience is less about witnessing an event and more about inhabiting the silent second that precedes it; a call to presence, to heightened attention, to the rawness of the now.

‘LOVERS’ A Special Presentation by Moi Aussi

Alongside Where Lightning is Born, Moi Aussi presents LOVERS, a collection that expands Novello’s exploration of energy, perception, and human connection. Lovers investigates the aesthetics, functionality, and lightness of objects, specifically eyewear, while emphasizing the relational dynamics that give them meaning. For Novello, love is the engine that moves society, infusing momentum into ourselves, our partners, and our communities.

Starting from a pair of black canvases, Novello manipulates their orientation to face one another, symbolizing the intimate, magnetic gaze that binds two people. Eyewear moves beyond its traditional function to become a space for creation: an object reimagined through the artist’s cultural background, emotional history, and conceptual language. In this transformation, Moi Aussi reinforces its mission of building bridges between cultures and experiences, connecting artists through the universal language of art.

Alignment with Scope’s Mission and Theme

This combined presentation echoes Scope Art Show’s role as a premier incubator for contemporary art. For twenty-four editions, Scope has provided a global platform for emerging galleries and artists, driving cultural conversation and forecasting new aesthetic and conceptual directions.

The 2025 edition’s theme, Be Here Now, underscores the urgency of presence in a hyper-mediated world, a reminder to reject distraction and encounter art with honesty and immediacy. Both Where Lightning is Born and Lovers speak directly to this ethos. Novello’s works do not demand interpretation; they ask for attention.
