In 2015 she was invited to be part of "Imago Mundi" Collection, works commissioned and collected by Luciano Benetton. Her solo show titled "The Encounter" with large-scale works raised funds to start the "Portugal Genial" Foundation dedicated to contributing to the development of artists of genuine distinction in their particular fields. Throughout her career, the artist has developed a variety of subjects, all of which however offer an expansive image of the world we currently live in, our shared joys and struggles as humans and ultimately, a view into our time and humanity. These paintings tell their own story, each and everyone of them, but together they tell the story of our world and our time while capturing the timelessness of humanity. In this storytelling, the materials are just as important as the content. In today’s reality the worldwide production, information, illusion and virtuality work like a fluid, that flexibly inflows the spaces in between materiality and overcomes seemingly effortless previous distinctions and expands reality exponentially. Right now this liquidity of the life is not only palpable and relevant in monetary terms any more. Jean Baudrillard attested not without reason in his last book: The reality as it was invented in the course of the last centuries and which we have raised to the principle, it is on the way of the resolution.* Cécile Wesolowski reacts to these new currents of living conditions by combining selected phenomena of this fluid, digital Anthropocene from her perspective in a new way, exaggerates them and at the same time, excessively questions them. Following this understanding her immersive installations in the exhibition space are representations of reality loosing its limits. Thereby her works also must inevitably lead to simulations of the current simulation in society. With lots of imagination and humor, she, for example, sets empty liquor bottles, inflatable bath toys or rhinestone accessories amazingly in scene, so that the formerly profane consumer objects suddenly suggest gloss, glamour and value. Or she combines tactile materials such as glass, plastic and folded metal with intangible light plays and projections of various kinds, like from headlights, LED light sources, movies or digital animations. In doing so the artist succeeds to lead the illusion of her productions back into the human hand made and back into the tangible materiality in an enlightened manner. Therefore she gives the viewer the chance to experience the ambivalence of our Brave New World. Mukheli’s fluid, engulfing compositions are inspired by his upbringing in Soweto, South Africa, reflecting on a host of themes from masculinity and blackness to ancestry and spirituality. I was studying the behavior of people individually but also as a whole. Glass has similar qualities with the psychological health of a person who is suffering. Fragile , vulnerable, sharp, dangerous, airy it relates to the fragmentation of the own self, with the person who doesn’t let others come close , with the summary of people ( society) , who doesn’t let anything “foreign or strange” invade it. The “ self “ in its weakest and sharpest form which resembles the reflection of a glass fragmentation wall, ready to collapse as soon as one small piece is being distracted. In my work I tried to show the borderline of collapsing/ destruction. For construction I used pieces of glass, which I found thrown away in storage rooms or factories, brought them to my place, cleaned them and started gluing in order to give the impression falling into pieces. ( destruction). I was often working with bare hands to have direct contact with the material and its temperature. until the very last moment all the odds were against me: time, aesthetics and the resistance of the construction itself. Mainly the fact that I had taken something from the garbage to present it to the eyes of the viewer ( visitor), and If it was permitted to call it “art”, was weird. Finally every movement had to be studied carefully first. Glass cuts. And it cuts badly. He left his corporate job and from that point forward he has turned into a full time artist painter and his creations have discovered their way into numerous private collections mostly in Europe and America. His coloured dots arrangements, transform imagery into abstract/geometric forms. Every form and attempt at classification of what surrounds us demonstrates the human impossibility of grasping the complexity of the surrounding universe, of the Whole. Progress itself and the idea of time – present, past and future – are fundamental to man and are not innate in the objects and phenomena investigated. The artist’s task is to recognize the intrinsic limit in man and his epistemological process, trying to grasp and represent the essence of reality, beyond what is known or supposedly known. In all of his works, Mattia Novello tries to capture the essence of reality, reaching the conclusion that time is circular, that the present, the past and the future coexist in a single eternal present, that the infinitely small is also infinitely large. From the fascination of Nietzsche’s eternal return there is no loss or nihilism, but rather a vision of secular pantheism. Mattia therefore suggests a possible path in search of meaning, because in the end what man sees as a contradiction is actually part of a whole. If the meaning of the Whole is not humanly reachable, for the artist the answer is the search itself, the tension to always go further, to communicate the intuition of the Whole, which resides, as mentioned, in the connection between opposites and contradictions human. But which forms can represent reality in its totality? Friedrich Nietzsche responded by reminding us that “all things lie directly.” Every truth is curved, time itself is a circle and therefore circularity is central and transversal in many works. Katharina Arndt The focus of her artistic work (painting, drawing, neon writing) is the observation of digital communication behavior and the visualization of the aesthetics of mass consumption in the digital age. For her, the symbol of this is the topic of ‘surface’ socially, cult urally, materially. In the hyperreal and at the same time immaterial online world, the visual appearance alone dominates us and the products that we are supposed to buy Every day we stroke the shiny screen of our smartphone countless times, the bodies are hairless, the corners are round, the sunglasses are mirrored. The smooth appears as a metaphor for lack of resistance, eternal youth, as artificial, uncritical, superficial, conformist. In tension with this is the individual, his feelings, his behavior. She transfers this theme formally and in terms of content to painting. She works on artificial supports such as PVC foil, varnished paper and plexiglass with glossy acrylic paint and varnish pens. Fast, reduced, almost childlike, motifs and medium function as an artistic mirror of the quantity and speed of perceived scenes. The figures in her pictures often wear sunglasses, are glued to their mobile phones, and have headphones on. They are socially highly active and at the same time socially isolated. During his time in Chania he is preparing his canvases and creating new works inspired by his time spent in Chania Crete. Mattia Novello was born in Vicenza, Italy in 1985. He graduated in visual communication at the European Design Institute in Milan, then in fashion photography at the School of Visual Art in New York and in Mixed Media Art at the Parsons School in New York. After spending part of his first career in New York, he now lives and works in Italy. She registered RedD Public Relations in 2012 during her final year studying Fine Arts (BA) at the UEL in East London, after completing a photography project commissioned by the 1 National Portrait Gallery for the 2012 Olympics. During her time in London she worked in Luxury Retail, and nightlife hospitality in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, freelancing in the Art & Fashion Industry. She’s lived in NYC, Chania, London, and Berlin. Having previously worked with many galleries and artists she decided to open the RedD Gallery in Chania Crete in June 2019, seven months before the first strict COVID lockdown took place in Greece. In 2020 during the global pandemic her innovative Instagram LIVE #ArtFromTheQuarantine project was picked up by several publications and featured in The Art Newspaper digital and printed May issue under the section “Art & Tech”. In 2021 she was hired by The Art Gorgeous Magazine to host a series of Lives from their membership house Instagram account called ‘Beyond Art’. Since 2012 she has visited Fairs and Produced Exhibitions in London, New York, Berlin, Paris Basil, Brussels, Zurich, Athens, Chania, Essen, and Leipzig; she has collaborated with over 100 artists and had their works featured in various publications, galleries, museums, private collections as well as TV coverage and auction houses.
